Industrial Heritage Fair

On Saturday, September 20, from 11 AM to 3 PM, the industrial past of the Pori region will come to life in the corridors of Puuvilla, as the Satakunta Museum hosts Finland’s first Industrial Heritage Fair.
The event brings together local industrial companies and associations to celebrate Pori’s expertise, innovations, and unique industrial legacy.

Pori has a rich and diverse industrial history, yet for many, it remains unfamiliar. The fair offers a chance to dive deeper into this topic – visitors can explore both the current operations and historical roots of companies, with information available in both Finnish and English. On stage, inspiring talks will highlight Pori’s industrial history, regional innovations, and the transformations shaping the industry. The stage program will be held only in Finnish. The event will be hosted by the charming Pori native, Elina Wallin.

Pori’s industrial sector has always been marked by internationalism, export expertise, and technological leadership. The region has pioneered innovations such as the flash smelting method for copper and was the first in Finland to adopt automation – breakthroughs that have left a lasting mark on history. Among the more familiar industrial products for locals are various foods, textiles, and household goods.

Today, Pori’s industrial identity is undergoing a transformation: automation, the green transition, and global markets are shaping the future. The fair offers a moment to pause, reflect on the past, and look ahead – together.

The event is part of the Satakunta Museum’s Industrial Heritage Network project in the Pori region, which has already brought together over 50 stakeholders to discuss the preservation and utilization of industrial heritage. Industrial heritage is not just about buildings – it also includes machines, working methods, products, and stories that live on in our everyday lives.

The event is free and open to everyone.
The stage program will be held only in Finnish and it will be streamed on the Satakunta Museum’s YouTube channel and will be available for later viewing.
