Gunnel Wåhlstrand
Turku Art Museum, Turku
- 6.6.2025–14.9.2025
Gunnel Wåhlstrand (b. 1974 Uppsala, Sweden) is known for her large-scale ink wash paintings, in which she depicts memories, people and landscapes with an almost photo-realistic precision and a fascinating presence and sensitivity.
Her works are often based on family photo albums and later on her own photographs, and she subtly engages in a dialogue with her own history, but also with the passage of time and human existence. Through her unique technique and slow, almost meditative working process, Wåhlstrand conveys a deep reflection on identity, memory and loss.
The exhibition is organized by Turku Art Museum in collaboration with Prince Eugen’s Waldemarsudde. It is the first major museum exhibition of an internationally renowned artist in Finland.
The exhibition is supported by the Finnish Heritage Agency.
