The Archipelago Sea is beloved by those who live or spend time on its shores. During the summer the sun shimmers playfully on the waters’ surface, boats glide over the waves and a plunge into the water is wonderfully cooling in the summer heat. On the other hand, the news are filled with worrying headlines regarding the Archipelago Sea: eutrofication, cyanobacteria and dead seafloors. Many of the joys of the sea and the problems accompanying them are familiar, but how much do we actually know about the unique nature of the Archipelago Sea? In a global perspective our one of a kind sea is exceptional in many ways.
