Postcards from Käkisalmi, the city of apple blossoms
Käkisalmi-museum, Heinola
- 28.4.2026–31.8.2026
A mini-exhibition opening in connection with the publication of the book: "Postcards from Käkisalmi to the City of Apple Blossoms" presents postcards, the history of Käkisalmi and postal services, and the emergence of a new method of communication.

In the exhibition you will get to know the world of postcards sent since 1900. What kind of images were chosen for the cards and where could they be written on the card? And who did the mail go to and how fast?
The postcard, which became very popular as a quick messenger in its time, has undergone historical changes from different types of cards, and has distributed communications even beyond the borders of the country. Keeping in touch has also been a part of the lifestyle of ordinary citizens, who still often choose a physically delivered card as a means of greeting.
The editorial board of the book on the subject includes Ulla Pihla-Kohopää, Eeva-Liisa Poutanen and Merja Uotila. It has been published by the Käkisalmi Foundation as the most recent work of the year.
