Kirsi Neuvonen: the artist's life path

“How did I become an artist? At what points in my life have I made choices related to my profession and its practice?
Maija-Riitta Ollila calls this structure of my own life the Architecture of Choices.

When looking at life, you can notice how the path of choices leads life to a certain channel. All choices affect the whole. Some choices can no longer be undone, but they exclude other possibilities.

This is what makes up a lived life and, for an artist, an artistic career. When making choices, there is no knowledge of what you ultimately chose when you were young. One choice always leads to new choices that come as a given or as a gift.

One such gift related to choosing a profession has been the artist myth, which I have not learned to live with. I have actually rebelled against it and tried to get rid of that myth.”
