Back to the 50s – Espoo Day at Museum Leikki

Celebrate Espoo Day with a free Back to the 50s event at Leikki – the Museum of Play on Saturday 29 August from 10 am to 5 pm. Step into the atmosphere of the 1950s and enjoy a day inspired by the museum's new exhibition Time Travel Odyssey 1950.

Experience the King of Rock 'n' Roll in an exciting Elvis show, admire a charming 1950s fashion show, learn the basics of Rockabilly Jive, enjoy lively dance performances and join the fun limbo competition. Throughout the day, you can also take part in creative workshops, enjoy non-stop family activities and browse a small vintage market full of nostalgic treasures.

Stage Programme

10:30 am & 3:30 pm – Limbo Competition
Join the limbo contest or cheer on the competitors! Children and adults alike are welcome to take part while classic 1950s hits fill the air. Prizes will be awarded for the best performances.

11:00 am & 1:30 pm – Hip Shakers Helsinki: Rockabilly Jive Dance Workshop
Everyone is welcome to give Rockabilly Jive a try with Hip Shakers Helsinki. No previous dance experience or partner is needed – just step onto the dance floor and enjoy the music, movement and friendly atmosphere.

11:30 am & 2:00 pm – Elvis Show
Enjoy sparkle, emotion and unforgettable melodies as Finland's leading Elvis performer ARON brings the spirit of early rock 'n' roll to Museum Leikki with beloved hits from the 1950s.

12:00 pm & 2:30 pm – Hip Shakers Helsinki: Rockabilly Jive Performance
Juha and Nina from Hip Shakers Helsinki bring authentic 1950s dance joy and swing to the stage in an energetic performance.

1:00 pm & 3:00 pm – Pin-Up Petrols 1950s Fashion Show
The fabulous models of Pin-Up Petrols, dressed in stunning vintage-inspired outfits by Wannabee, present an elegant journey back to the 1950s where timeless glamour meets rebellious rock 'n' roll.

10:30 am–1:00 pm – Time Travel Workshop
Imagine life in the year 2100 by building a utopian city. Where will children of the future live, go to school, play and travel?

11:00 am–4:00 pm – Vintage Market
Browse nostalgic clothing, jewellery and decorative items from Memento and Wannabee.

11:00 am–3:00 pm – Cotton Candy Booth (outdoors, weather permitting)
Treat yourself to fluffy cotton candy while supporting the Friends of Museum Leikki.

2:00–4:30 pm – Paper Doll Workshop
Create your own paper dolls and beautiful outfits inspired by one of the most beloved toys of the 1950s.

Six members of the Tietäväinen paper doll family are hiding in the museum. Find them all for a chance to win a Children's Annual Pass to Museum Leikki.

Classic American Cars
Admire beautiful American classic cars from the 1950s, presented by the Tomahawk Town Car Club, and capture the perfect vintage photo.
