Makkarakoski Sawmill
Welcome to experience sawmill history in an authentic setting – the Makkarakoski Sawmill Museum!
The current Makkarakoski sawmill was built in 1875 to replace the previous mill destroyed by fire. The saw frames came to a halt in February 1956 when operations ceased. The original equipment from the 1880s was left in place, making the sawmill a unique piece of industrial history.
Makkarakoski is a rare example of the lifecycle of a sawmill. It first operated with water power, then steam power, and finally electricity. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that there is no other sawmill museum quite like it in Europe.
You can visit the Makkarakoski sawmill on guided public tours. The guided tour lasts approximately 60 minutes. The exhibition space is not accessible for visitors with reduced mobility.
All public guided tours depart from the Ahlström Voyage exhibition space. At Makkarakoskentie 34 B, you’ll find ticket sales, a museum shop, and restroom facilities. The Noormarkku Club restaurant serves both lunch and à la carte guests at Laviantie 14. Check Noormarkku Club’s opening hours at www.ahlstrominruukki.fi.
