Enchanted by Wool and Fashion

The roots of the Hyvinkää Wool Mill date back to 1892, when Ossian Donner established the first wool-weaving mill in the small station village. After some initial difficulties, the mill grew into Hyvinkää’s largest employer and, over time, the largest wool mill in the Nordic countries. For consumers, the story of the wool mill is first and foremost visible through the products and the symbols that change over time.

The exhibition tells the story of the wool mill in the years following World War II and how Finnish wool products captured the hearts of consumers, from the collections of international fashion houses to homes in the increasingly urbanised Finland.

It is also the story of the transformation of the domestic wool industry from a major employer towards foreign production.
