COMING UP: Nurinkurin - unexpected angles!
The Museum of Kymenlaakso, Kotka
- 28.11.2025–15.2.2026
The Nurinkurin exhibition at the Kymenlaakso Museum showcases design and restoration through the work and stories of students from South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk).
The Nurinkurin exhibition takes you on a journey of new insight. “Nurinkurin” means looking at things from unexpected angles – sometimes even turning them upside down.
There are times when you need to stop and take a closer look. The Nurinkurin exhibition is one of those moments – an experience that challenges us to ask ourselves whether we truly see everything that is around us.
Nurinkurin serves as a meeting place for individuals shaping the future and expanding the boundaries of thought. The pieces in the exhibition are inspired by an experimental perspective, anticipation of the future, and sustainability. Through experimentation, ideas grow into insights, and design creates possibilities.
The exhibition is entirely the work of Xamk students – from idea to realisation. On display are ecological design, graphic design, fashion, digital and performance costume design, interior architecture and furniture design, service design, game design, restoration, and projects from Xamk’s Creative Industries Research Unit.
Nurinkurin not only showcases the students’ work but also tells the story of people who want to make their mark and shape the world through their thinking and their work. The works reflect their creators’ journeys, visions, and desires to solve everyday challenges from the perspectives of individuals, businesses, communities, and society.
A designer’s work is visible all around us – from objects and spaces to clothes, logos, packaging, games, digital content, and services, all of which were designed by someone. Design skills are needed wherever creative problem-solving is required.
