Live stream: Announcement of the results of the design competition for the New Museum of Architecture and Design

The results of the international design competition for the new Museum of Architecture and Design will be announced soon. You are warmly invited to join the moment live on Helsinki-kanava (Helsinki Channel). The event will be held in English, and the live stream will include Finnish subtitles.

The Architecture & Design Museum is on a journey towards a new future. In 2030, the museum will relocate to Makasiiniranta, a vibrant, developing seaside neighbourhood near Helsinki’s Market Square. A new museum building will rise on the historic harbourfront – an open, inviting, human-scaled space designed for seeing, engaging, and experimenting.

The design of the new museum was chosen through an anonymous international competition. A total of 624 proposals were submitted from around the world. The jury chose five proposals for the final stage: City, Sky and Sea, Kumma, Moby, Tau and Tyrsky. One of these will be selected to become the new building for the Museum of Architecture and Design Helsinki.

The winner will be announced on Thursday 11 September 2025 from 9.30–11.30am. Join the live stream to hear the results in real time!

Once the winner has been chosen, the project will continue into a development phase, where the museum’s concept and building will be refined together with its future users. The new Museum of Architecture and Design is expected to open in South Harbour in Helsinki in 2030.

The competition entries will also be on display in the exhibition Winner – Finalists of the design competition for the new Museum of Architecture and Design, opening in the museum gallery on 3 October 2025. The exhibition invites everyone to imagine the future museum together.
