Vibrating time - Satu Koivikko, Hannu Enver Mäkelä, Inari Virmakoski

Hannu: The concept for the exhibition began to take shape in 2024 as a continuation of the long-standing artistic collaboration—spanning over thirty years—between Koivikko and Mäkelä. Having found the confines of traditional music and music theory too restrictive, the artist has moved toward increasingly experimental sound art in recent releases—a realm where concept and chance shape the outcome.
The work is rooted in childhood observations and a curiosity about the messages conveyed by nature. "My mother used to talk to the flowers, always insisting that they understood. As a young person, I read about an invention that utilized trees as components of a radio transmitter. In the spring, meanwhile, willow whistles brought forth a sound directly from nature. The idea that nature carries its own voice has always stayed with me."
Satu: The time was ripe for a life change. I immersed myself in biographical literature concerning Finnish art, spanning from the 19th century onwards. I drew strength and courage from it: creating and learning art knows no age limit. Despite all its inequalities, the world is open. I envision my faith in the future as vibrant, powerful colors. I feel that if I search, I will find something! Perhaps I will find it within myself.
INTUITION – What is intuition? Do intuition and creative, artistic activity go hand in hand? Can understanding intuition help a creative person? Does imagination differ from intuition? When I strive toward a solution, does intuition come to my aid, or is it merely a choice based on prior learning? Can I learn to develop my own intuition? I created the works in this exhibition based on intuition, without any advance planning. No explanations; the viewer is free to create their own experiences.
