The Halosenniemi Museum
Halosenniementie 4-6,
04310 Tuusula
A Beautiful 20th century artist residence and atelier at the heart of Finnish culture, the shores of Tuusulanjärvi lake.
The museum exhibits the life and work of artist Pekka Halonen (1865-1933) as well as other artists.
A versatile artist and master portrayer of Finnish landscapes and people, Halonen absorbed the latest international trends and ingeniously applied these to the depiction of Finnish nature. The countryside around Lake Tuusula provided him with a rich source of ideas and inspiration, and it was there that Halonen developed the distinctive style for which he is renowned.
Halosenniemi was designed by Pekka Halonen himself and his brother Antti Halonen and was completed in 1902. Architecture of Halosenniemi can be seen as an expression of the cultural aspirations of the National Romantic era. In the early 1890s, many Finnish artists built year-round studio-villas to rural areas. Their aim was to build a distinctive ‘Finnish’ style by integrating local architecture and elements borrowed from various other cultures.
Halonen's studio was opened to the public in the 1950s. Today the museum specialises in presenting material related to Halonen's art, his lifetime achievements and the famous artists' colony of Tuusula to which he and his friends belonged. Every year the museum hosts 4-5 theme exhibitions showcasing Halonen's art side by side with the work of his contemporaries and later generations of artists up to the present day.e and work the artist as well as exhibits other artists.
