The Doll Exhibition at Riihisaari
Riihisaari – Savonlinna Museum, Savonlinna
- 1.6.2021–31.12.2025
The Riihisaari Museum's permanent exhibition recounts the story of the Finnish doll.
As the Finnish doll industry does not have a particularly long history, the exhibition also includes dolls from times when they had to be imported from abroad. Most objects on display are from local collector Käpy Tarus' private collection of dolls and toys, which she donated to the museum.
The exhibition includes all sorts: rag dolls and cloth dolls, plastic dolls and wax dolls, painstaking reproductions and original art pieces, and more besides. The oldest dolls on display come from 18th-century Germany, while the newest are from the 2000s.
The exhibition is a colourful and light-hearted affair, with plenty of opportunities for play. Don't forget to take a peek at the miniature tableaux inside the wall!
