Treats from the Malva Art Collection

The exhibition Treats from the Malva Art Collections presents a selection of works acquired for the Malva art collections in recent years, e.g. from Maria Laine and Johanna Rotko.

Malva acquires art from its own exhibitions, other museums, galleries, and directly from artists. Works are also frequently offered to the museum as donations, and in such cases, the museum takes great care to select the most appropriate new additions.

Malva’s collections is systematically expanded using agreed-upon criteria. In addition to artistic quality, emphasis is placed on locality. As the museum with regional responsibility in Päijät-Häme, Malva has an important mission as a collector and preserver of visual arts in the region. A work of art can be connected to Päijät-Häme through, for example, the maker, theme, place of production, or ownership history of the work.

Museum professionals works with Malva’s collections. The artworks are stored, studied, conserved, photographed, and presented daily through exhibitions, publications, and online. Malva currently cares for more than 9,000 works of art.

The artists in the exhibition are Antti Hakkarainen, Taidekollektiivi Liiketila, Juha Tanhua, Maria Laine, Anni Henriksson, Saija Kivikangas, Henna Nuutinen and Johanna Rotko.
