Marjo Hallila – Pieces
Aalto2, Jyväskylä
- 1.2.2025–20.4.2025
The Pieces exhibition by Marjo Hallila is a journey along the boundary of past and future. It is a transitional space where the artist revisits the past and reaches towards the future, exploring the impact of time and place.
Throughout the journey, Hallila develops artwork ideas, production processes, and various perspectives, merging different media and materials.
The Pieces exhibition, opening in February 2025, offers a window into Marjo Hallila’s multidisciplinary and experimental creative process. It brings together works from various years, presenting an overview of the central themes and materials that have defined her career. The exhibition includes both old and new works, creating a spatial and temporal unity where past and future intersect.
In her expression, Hallila combines experimental contemporary graphics, abstract painting, installations, textiles, and photography. Her work is based on a continuous interaction between materials and environment. Rather than limiting herself to one art form or technique, Hallila emphasizes a multi-material and intuitive approach, allowing the processes to shape her work: “Multidisciplinary work is my art’s strength and lifeline. Intersecting processes draw influence from each other, support, challenge, and question each other. I work in constant interaction with materials and the environment. My work is grounded in the question of understanding concepts of being and essence.”
The Pieces exhibition offers an opportunity to see Marjo Hallila’s art as she experiences it: in a state of continuous change, drawing from the past and reaching toward new forms of expression.
