Anna Rokka: Night Wind
HAM Helsinki Art Museum, Helsinki
- 24.1.2025–9.3.2025
In her exhibition at HAM gallery, Anna Rokka moves through the complex running of time and material. In her art, she creates spaces where fragments come together in new forms.
The night wind moves like water, sweeping away, a new form of light-sensitive shadow creatures move…
By sorting and transforming fragments, the artist Anna Rokka moves methodically forward, constantly exploring. In her work, where time is not just a linear process but a place of depth, Rokka explores the history of materials. Materials carry memories beyond our immediate understanding. The artist acts as a filter for the flow of the present and history.
Rokka reflects on the formation of our complex thought patterns, tied to which phase of the multifaceted information sphere we find ourselves in.
The exhibition consists of art installations, created using various techniques and materials like LCD screens, bowling balls and break lights.
Rokka observes architectural dimensions and shapes the artwork in direct relation to the human body’s presence and senses. The artistic approach is characterized by an experimental attitude; the interplay between chaos, impulsivity, and sensory exploration. Her key tools are the reuse and retelling of various objects: those that have been left behind, found, lost, abandoned…
Anna Rokka (b. 1986) is a visual artist who focuses on installation but also works with sculpture, video art, video installation, performance, painting, and costume design. Rokka inherited her artistry from her family, which is largely made up of various kinds of creators. Anna Rokka has shown her work in both galleries and museums, including Sculptor and Sinne in Helsinki and MACRO Testaccio in Rome. Rokka was honoured with the annual sculptor award from the Raimo Utriainen Art Foundation in 2015.
