Composition Workshop Inspired by Aleksandra Ionowa 12th April, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Aleksandra Ionowa's images were created quickly and spontaneously. The artist also improvised on the black keys of the piano and performed her improvisations at various events, such as exhibition openings.

Now, you have the opportunity to try composing yourself in a guided workshop. At the beginning of the workshop, each participant will have the chance to explore Mary Gallen-Kallela’s grand piano and take turns improvising on the black keys in Ionowa’s style, listening to what the universe has to say. After that, each participant will draw their own visual score using colored pencils and charcoal, following the given instructions. The works created during the session will be realized and played together during the workshop.

The workshop will be led by musician Kari Fagerholm, who teaches various instruments. Kari has extensive experience in conducting composition and other art workshops. He is also well-acquainted with the artist’s body of work, having served on the board of the Ionowa Foundation for several years.

Participation in the workshop does not require any specific musical skills or playing ability. In addition to the grand piano, participants will have access to rhythm instruments, a keyboard, and a guitar. The workshop lasts approximately 2 hours, and a maximum of eight people can participate.

The museum events are organized within the limits of museum operations, building, artwork, and public safety regulations. The number of participants is limited. The event is one-time only. If you need to cancel your participation, we will retain half of the workshop fee. Alternatively, the price of the workshop ticket can be transferred to a gift card usable at the Gallen-Kallela Museum. If the event is canceled for reasons attributable to the organizer, we will of course refund the entire amount. This event will take place if 8 participants register.
