The Space of Gesture - Jenni Laaksonen

The moment captured with the camera produces an imprint of something that once was only for a blink of an eye for the photographer and the object of the photograph. Movement doesn’t stop, it continues forward.

The Space of Gesture has begun in the crossroads of photography and dance, in the moments full of improvisation and intuition. It is part of a larger photography project, which examines the representation of three dimensional bodily movement with the limits of two dimensional photographic forms.

All the photographs of the exhibition have been taken during the years 2025-2026. The models in the pictures including the artist herself are dance artists René Koivisto, Iida Paukamainen, Rianna Rintamäki, Anniina Ukkonen and Nea Vuorinen. The soundscape for the bigger hall is made by musician Tero Fagerström.
