Liminal - Jani Jokinen

Desolate or empty space between two worlds - twilight after night, before dawn, or a space usually full of life, temporarily stripped from it's purpose. These include cities devoid of people or an empty shopping mall. Places like these may evoke feelings of stillness, alienation and unease. Also an artwork which isn't pure abstract yet not figurative could be classified as liminal.
As I was choosing pieces for the show, I didn't really have any particular theme in mind, just works from last couple of years that'll represent my art and vision. People have seen liminality and dystopic moods in my work, but I've never really chased them, at least not consciously. My work chooses it's path in pretty random way along the process.
Lately the path has been this, and the most important motivator and guide for me is that the work must please my own eye.
Viewer may see different layers and landscapes within landscapes in these works, both inner and external - and dialogue between abstract and figurative, which hopefully opens doors for different interpretations.
