Folk costume celebration day

Craft Museum Miila will host a Folk Costume Day on Saturday, 1 August. The Folk Costume Day programme will take place from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, while the museum will be open from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

At 1:00 pm, there will be a presentation of folk costumes featuring costumes from the museum's collection, as well as a couple of folk costumes owned by residents of Paimio. Visitors will hear about Finnish folk costumes in general, but also on a more personal level: why a particular costume was chosen and how it was eventually made. Many of the costumes have been passed down from one generation to the next, but the presentation will also include a fairly new costume. The presentation is included in the museum admission fee.

After the presentation, the museum will host a Folk
Costume Day workshop from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, where visitors can make a bookmark or key chain using a tablet weaving loom and a pattern. Participants may take both the weaving loom and their finished item home after the workshop. The workshop has a €3 materials fee per person. Places are available for the first 10 participants. Visitors wearing a Finnish folk costume, an archaeological costume, or the Paimio costume receive free admission to the museum.
