Home to two of Finland's most notable artists, painter Venny Soldan-Brofeld and author Juhani Aho, Ahola is the birthplace of the Tuusulanjärvi artist community.
The move of author Juhani Aho and painter Venny Soldan-Brofeldt to the villa they named Ahola in 1897 was the beginning of the community of artists of Lake Tuusula. The couple's long-term home exhibits the lifetime work of these two artists.
The Finnish national author Juhani Aho turns out to have been a vigorous outdoor man who has left behind fishing gear, a backpack made of birch bark he carried on his excursions and a pair of skis in the museum. There is a diverse display of books by this folk depicter and social thinker, including publications that were forbidden at the time or published under a pseudonym.
Venny Soldan-Brofeldt was a visual artist influential in the art education circles and the feminist movement. A skilful sketcher, she could instantly capture insightful moments on paper, such as her sketchbooks reveal. There are also book illustrations, small sculptures and jewellery on display.
