Nature’s Home Pharmacy Workshops

The exhibition When the Doctor Is Far from Home presents plants and remedies used in folk medicine in the 18th and 19th centuries. Inspired by the exhibition, we are organizing three open workshops where we will use the gifts of summer nature to create various wellbeing‑enhancing products.

In the first workshop on June 6th, we will make green powder from natural superfoods such as nettle and dandelion.

The second workshop on June 25th focuses on different plants that can be used to prepare herbal tea blends like coughs, better sleep and stomach care. We use, for example, chamomile, raspberry leaves, fireweed flowers and mint.

In the final workshop on July 9th, we will make wound‐care oil from the common yarrow plant.

The workshops use easily recognizable plants that can be freely gathered under every man’s right and are generally well tolerated. The use of the plants is at each participant’s own discretion, especially in cases of sensitivities or allergies. The workshops provide information about the active compounds of the plants, their uses, and how to collect them. Each participant will prepare a small amount of the product related to the workshop theme and may take it home.

The workshops are included in the museum admission fee. The Museum Card is accepted as a payment. The workshops take place in the multipurpose room Mikstuura, located at the end of the museum tour. The workshop space is accessible
