Törni/Thorne - 60 years since the dissappearance of Finish war hero Lauri Törni
Wanha Veteraani – Center for peacekeeping and veteranwork, Hamina
- 24.5.2025–28.9.2025
Lauri Törni, a controversial war hero, Knight of the Mannerheim Cross, a traitor convicted in the aftermath of the Continuation War, and a hero of the Vietnam War, disappeared 60 years ago.
The remains of the helicopter that crashed into the mountainside and its crew were only found in 1999.
Larry A. Thorne, who joined the US Army after the Finnish Wars and changed his name, was buried with military honors in Arlington National Cemetery in the United States in 2003. Lauri Törni was born in Vyborg in 1919.
The Törni/Thorne Museum's temporary exhibition will be in Hamina from May 17 to September 28, 2025. Alongside Lauri Törni's entire military career, the exhibition highlights his disappearance in the Vietnamese jungle and the work of the expedition that found the crash site in more detail than before.
