SLM Industry - expert in electricity distribution and sheet metal forming

The theme exhibition presents the industrial operations and development of Sähkölähteenmäki Oy, SLM from the 1950s to the 2000s. The SLM switchgear factory, later Paimion Kojeistoteollisuus Oy and ABB Paiko Oy, was the second largest switchgear manufacturer in Finland after Strömberg, employing a maximum of about 300 people. The switchgear manufacturing program already included all types of low-voltage switchgear and medium-voltage transformer stations in the 1960s, and later also 110/20 kV substations.

The company's desire to develop the company's metal department led to the establishment of SLM-Metall. The company decided to increase production efficiency and purchase computer-programmed CNC sheet metal working machines and also start selling Japanese AMADA sheet metal working machines. As capacity increased, more extensive subcontracting of sheet metal parts began in addition to manufacturing its own products. These subcontracted products included, for example, Lundia steel shelving systems and Nokian MikroMikko computer cases, among many others.

The exhibition provides an insight into the operations of these companies through objects, texts, photographs and videos.
