Roberto Fusco and Emma Fält: The Wave in the Mind

The Wave in the Mind by artist duo Roberto Fusco and Emma Fält is a continuation of their previous work combining calculations from analogue and digital technologies with traditional drawing and printing techniques. The duo have previously explored the physical and expressive properties of the surface of water and sand, and in their latest installation, The Wave in the Mind, they approach storms from different perspectives. Modern sensor technology has provided measurable data for the simulation of a 2004 storm, while subjective records of sea conditions in Pommern ship’s logs have informed a speculative reconstruction of a 1934 storm.

The soundscape of the exhibition consists of drawing sounds on various materials and of human voices. These embodied attempts to follow the waves use our sensory bodies instead of reductively measuring and calculating natural phenomena.
