Ethiopian cultural afternoon

The program includes a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., live music from 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Amharic fairy tales for children at 2:45 p.m. From 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Ethiopian delicacies such as injera and dabo bread and Ethiopian coffee will be served.

The cultural afternoon is organized by Ethiopian mothers living in Espoo, Helsinki, and Vantaa.

“We are a group of Ethiopian women and mothers living here in Espoo, Helsinki and Vantaa Finland. Together, we’ve come up with something close to our hearts: a special day to celebrate Ethiopian culture and to honor a woman who inspires us deeply: Helinä Rautavaara.

Helinä was not just a traveller or collector; she was a brave, open-hearted woman who spent her life learning from people around the world, respecting their traditions, and sharing their stories. We see ourselves in her. Like her, we’ve left home, built new lives, and continue carrying our cultural heritage with love and pride.

That’s why we chose the Helinä Rautavaara Museum as the place to host our Ethiopian Culture Day on Espoo Day. This museum reflects everything we believe in: respect between cultures, storytelling, and the strength of women.

This day is not just about us. It’s about sharing Ethiopian beauty and tradition with our children, our friends, and our Finnish neighbours. And it’s about making sure more people know who Helinä Rautavaara was, a woman whose story deserves to be remembered and celebrated.
