Online Lecture | Architecture Speaks: Max Núñez

Architecture and Design Museum Helsinki, Helsinki

  • 19.11.2025 (13:15–14:30)

Architecture Speaks event series is here again! Join us for a journey through interesting topics and knowledgeable speakers.

On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 1.15–2.30 pm (Finnish time UTC+2)
The online lecture will be held on Zoom, and registration is required.

Every construction deconstructs elsewhere; materials are territories carried into form. The task of architecture is to create a positive balance where structures give back more than they take. Architecture, once born of shelter and survival, must again learn from nature’s cycles of efficiency and renewal. Architecture stands at the intersection of structure and resources, where every act of construction echoes far beyond its site.

In the eleventh season of the Architecture Speaks lecture series, organized jointly by Aalto University and the Architecture & Design Museum, Professor and Head of department of Architecture Jenni Reuter invites six architects to share insights into their design processes and their roles in the world of architecture. The theme of this season is Structures and Resources.

Max Núñez
Max Núñez
Max Núñez graduated as an architect from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 2004. In 2010, he earned his MA from Columbia University in New York. Since then, he has led Max Núñez Arquitectos.

His practice recognized with the Design Vanguard Award from Architectural Record (2017), the Design Award from Wallpaper Magazine several times and the Building of the Year Award from ArchDaily in 2023. He has won several public competitions, including the Atacama Regional Museum in Copiapó and the Library, Archive, and Regional Repository of Los Ríos in Valdivia. His projects have been featured internationally and are the subject of two monographic books.

From 2016 to 2020, he was Head of the Master’s Program in Architecture at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he continues to teach.

“The reason why I wanted to invite Chilean architect Max Núñez to this series is his skillful use of structures. They are often lifted up and only slightly touch the ground. Núñez strives to engage with and respond to the unique potential that lies within the local conditions of a place.” – Jenni Reuter
