WeeGee Reads: Voices of the Forest

The WeeGee Exhibition Centre, Espoo

  • 30.11.2025 (14.00-16.30)

Meet authors Linnea Kuuluvainen, Olli Sinivaara, Saila Susiluoto, and Vehka Kurjenmiekka at EMMA’s Antti Laitinen – Chiming Forest exhibition.

Kuuluvainen, Sinivaara, and Susiluoto will discuss depictions of forests and nature in literature and read excerpts from their nature-themed works. The discussion will be moderated by author Vehka Kurjenmiekka. The event takes place in the Chiming Forest exhibition space and includes a silent book club session.

Author Linnea Kuuluvainen’s debut novel Metsänpeitto was nominated for the Helsingin Sanomat Literature Prize and the Kuvastaja Award in 2024. Set in the near future, Metsänpeitto is a dystopian novel where the forest plays a central role, blending themes of nature, society, and mythology. Her next novel, Hukkumisleikki, will be published in spring 2026.

Poet Olli Sinivaara’s collection Valoon, vihreään (2025) takes readers into the world of chlorophyll and blossoms through trees and their branches. The poems follow the rhythm of the seasons and offer a rich nature experience. His earlier collection Puut (2022), centered around the pine tree, won the Tanssiva karhu Poetry Prize.

Poet and author Saila Susiluoto released the ecofeminist spell and curse collection Rituaali this year. The work is dramaturgically structured and intended to be spoken aloud in any forest the reader wishes to protect. Her next poetry collection, Summerhill, will be published in early spring 2026. Susiluoto has received several literary awards, including the Einari Vuorela Poetry Prize in 2011.

Vehka Kurjenmiekka is an author and youth work specialist. Her writing spans fantasy and feel-good fiction infused with magical realism. The second book in her Merenkehrä series, Talventaitto (2024), won the Kuvastaja Award in 2025.

Before WeeGee Reads, visitors are welcome to join a public guided tour of the Antti Laitinen − Chiming Forest exhibition from 1:00 to 1:45 PM. The events are included in the museum admission.
