Bells of Tundra
Särestöniemi Museum, Kittilä
- 16.1.2026–23.5.2026
Reidar Särestöniemi (1925–1981) was one of the most renowned artists of his time, whose richly colorful works continue to move people to this day.

The 2026 main exhibition at the Särestöniemi Museum is titled Bells of the Tundra. This collection of works, drawn from private collections and the museum’s own holdings, presents the vibrant and powerful art of Reidar Särestöniemi through themes that were meaningful to the artist.
The exhibition Tundran kellot delves into Särestöniemi’s world through his monastery theme. The bells of the tundra ring out from his childhood home in Särestö to his mother’s native region in Ruija (Vadsø), and from there to Petsamo.
The Särestöniemi Museum is open Tue–Fri from 11 am to 5 pm and Sat from 10 am to 4 pm. The ticket desk and museum shop close one hour before closing time.
We recommend reserving plenty of time for your visit, as the museum area consists of three separate building complexes. Guided tours are available on request, and the schedule for public guided tours can be found in our events calendar.
