Journey to the Heartlands – The Landscape Returns

Journey to the Heartlands 2027 exhibition showcases contemporary art from Central Finland. In 2027, the exhibition curated by Pirjetta Brander explores the theme of landscape, interpreted from their own perspectives by the 16 participating artists.

“Landscape returns. The climate is changing at an ever-accelerating pace, and species, including humans, adapt as best they can. Artists seem to be rooted in the stillness of the present moment, yet at the same time they can see the future unfolding endlessly before them.

The artist returns to the landscape. Landscape, a carefully studied representation of the surrounding reality, is a route marked out by the artist towards the core. Creating a landscape is a journey to the centre of the world.

Artists move slowly within their own centre, while everything around them moves at great speed.

Landscape is a map and an explanation of the world.

Landscape is a window that brings together memories, seasons and times of day.

Each landscape in the exhibition, created from unique observations and using an original technique, is a proposal for a new reality.”
