Hämeenlinna City Museum Skogster Museum
Raatihuoneenkatu 8
Discover the long and eventful history of Hämeenlinna! True tales which surpass fiction, along with comfy spaces, attract visitors from near and far.
The Skogster Museum is the main building of the Hämeenlinna City Museum. On the ground floor there is a cozy museum lobby, a reference library, and a museum shop, as well as the Soppi exhibition space. On the upper floor of the Skogster Museum, there is a larger space for temporary exhibitions and the Savings Bank Museum’s exhibition.
In 2025, the main exhibition is Asleep – The Cultural History of Sleep. The exhibition explores sleeping and dreams from the 19th century to the present day – from wooden bunks and sibling beds to sleeping in exceptional conditions, the close connection between sleep and work, the development of nightwear, and the significance of the bed. The objects are drawn from the City Museum’s own collections, thus highlighting Tavastian cultural heritage.
At Soppi, the touring exhibition Dream Tapestrys will be on display from 14 February to 19 October 2025. Dream Tapestrys is an experiential exhibition world especially designed for children and young people, telling about dreams and visions in Finnish children’s and youth literature.
The building also houses the City Museum’s office, research services, and the cultural environment unit. The Hämeenlinna City Museum provides research services as the regional responsibility museum for Kanta-Häme and maintains four museum sites: the Skogster Museum, the Palander House, the Birthplace of Jean Sibelius, and the Savings Bank Museum.
