Ateneum Late – free for students and under 25-year-olds

Ateneum Late is an evening event that invites visitors to spend time enjoying art. The programme includes music, guided tours of current exhibitions, workshops and performance art. The evening ends with a gig at the Ateneum Bistro. The event follows the principles of a safe space.

Photography and video recording will take place at this event. Images and footage may be used in our communications and marketing.

17:00–22:00 Modern Classics: Elga Sesemann exhibition

Conversation guide Riitta Ojamaa suggests ideas for getting inspired by the works.

For Elga Sesemann, the world was art and big emotions. She painted, drew, wrote and was inspired by music.

17:00–18:00 The exhibition A Question of Time

A guided tour of oddity – Stories about the museum and the works come to life

You are invited to enjoy a museum experience that explores oddity in the company of the guide Katariina Salmijärvi. Everything you hear and see may be true … or not, as the case may be. If you so wish, you can also share an odd story of your own. On this guided tour, you get to sit around a contemporary campfire in the November twilight.

The group meets in the museum’s light court, and the tour lasts for 45 minutes. Participants need to register in advance on the museum website or at the ticket office, if there are places available on the day. There is a limited number of places available.

Keiju

Keiju’s greatest asset is her versatility, and her genre-bending music has attracted attention in both rap and indie pop circles. Recently, however, her focus has been heavily on rap, as demonstrated by her recently released WINXTAPE mixtape. The artist’s unforgettable flow and delivery, as well as her exceptionally sharp lyrics, are a breath of fresh air in the Finnish rap scene. In her gigs, Keiju can conjure up a variety of worlds, from hazy spirals of longing to energetic rap parties.

Workshop: Arpilleras and a sense of belonging

Originating in Chile, arpilleras are colourful pieces of textile art that capture the country’s history and survival. They are not only handicraft, but also an important expressive tool for cultural identity and creativity.

The workshop is a taster of a method in which stories are shared and a sense of belonging is built in a safe space. Participants practise active listening and communal care, while at the same time creating arpillera textile art based on their own and shared experiences. No previous experience is required. Instructors: Jennifer Garrido and Rosamaría Bolom. The workshop will be realised in cooperation with MIELI Without Borders, Nicehearts and INY (Iraqi Women’s Association). The language of the workshop is English.
