Merkki x Citizen Network: #morenews art workshop

Merkki, Helsinki

  • 7.2.2025 (13-16)

We will create a small exhibition on our thoughts on the history and future of newspapers. The art workshop is inspired by the world-renowned Filipino artist David Medalla. With his art installation, he created an exhibition of newspapers banned during President Marcos’ regime in the 1970s.

If you care about informing citizens and communities and building a common understanding to promote democracy, this event is for you! We need your creative input to create a collective art installation.

We start with a brief guided tour in the Media Museum Merkki. After the tour let’s discuss what we can do to ensure that we continue to have a strong media that keeps citizens informed about important issues. We will present the work of Citizen Network News, a joint global newspaper, and discuss issues related to media, democracy and community. The event language is both English and Finnish.

The event will be facilitated by Markus Vähälä from Citizen Network and Strindberg Laboratory.
