Suosymposium – Artistic Perspectives on a Changing Environment

Haihatus Art Center, Joutsa

  • 7.8.2026 (12:30-17:30)

An environmental art event open to everyone, at the Haihatus Art Centre in Joutsa.

How can environmental art give new meaning to former peat production sites? Join the open SuoSymposium, where artists, researchers, and cultural professionals come together to explore environmental art, changing landscapes, and the future of transformed environments.

The symposium examines how art can create new meanings, perspectives, and possibilities for places that have undergone significant environmental change.

The programme includes expert discussions, artistic presentations, and insights into the experiences and working methods developed through the project. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn more about Haihatus Art Center and its artist residency programme.

The Suo Symposium is part of a development project led by the Humanistic University of Applied Sciences (Humak), bringing together professionals from the fields of art, cultural production, and environmental studies to explore new artistic approaches to environmental change. More information about the project is available on Humak's website.

Haihatus Art Center and Humak warmly welcome everyone interested in environmental art, culture, and changing landscapes to join the discussion.

The symposium will be held in Finnish and English.
