The museum fences of Mateli Kuivalatar and Korhonen

Parppeinvaara poem village, Ilomantsi

  • 1.1.2015–

In the granary at the birthplace of Mateli Kuivatar, visitors can learn about an important folk poetry singer who sang verses from the Kanteletar to Elias Lönnrot in 1838.

The granaries from the birthplace of folk poetry singer Mateli Kuivalatar, originally located in Siitarinvaara, were moved to Parppeinvaara in the 1970s. In addition to the granaries from her childhood home, Parppeinvaara is also home to Mateli’s singing granary, which was moved there from Kontiovaara. Mateli was a highly skilled singer of lyrical folk poetry.

Next to Mateli’s granaries are the Korhonen Museum Granaries. One of them was used for storing game, while the other served as a storage granary for the mistress of the house and as accommodation for servants. The Korhonen Museum Granaries were moved to the Poetry Village of Parppeinvaara from Hattuvaara.
