School classroom and teacher's family home
Meritalo Museum, Salo
- 4.6.2025–31.12.2029
The exhibition presents a Finnish elementary school in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Meritalo Museum exudes the spirit of the turn of the 19th century. Come and see what it was like in a 19th century school and the teaching family lived next door to the school. The classroom has furniture from the guild school and the public school. The school environment of that time included actual observational ideas, such as a globe, a bead board, a flora, the teacher's wooden map rack and utepus boards, which told about animals or the alphabet, for example. The teaching family's apartment has a visible study, a chamber, a kitchen and a hall.
The Meritalo Museum is located near the center of Salo in the old wooden house district of Moisio. Meritalo is a former village hall of the Joensuu manor, the oldest part of which is a semi-detached house from the 1840s. The building housed the Salo, or former Uskela, elementary school from 1873 to 1906.
The museum is open from June 4 to August 31, Wed - Sun 11:00 - 17:00. Admission is free.
