Explore the Yrjö Väisälä Museum at Tuorla Observatory in Kaarina, where the history of Finnish innovation meets the legacy of Finnish astronomy.
The main exhibition showcases the extraordinary inventions of Academician Yrjö Väisälä (1891–1971) – one of Finland’s most esteemed and beloved scientists – along with insights into the everyday life of scientific work and the research that has continued at Tuorla in his footsteps.
Since the 1950s, large-scale optics for some of the world’s finest telescopes have been produced here, and the world’s most precise distance-measuring instrument, the Väisälä Comparator, was developed on this very site.
The museum is located at Tuorla Observatory, which was founded by Yrjö Väisälä in 1952, and operates in close collaboration with the Science Centre Avaruuspuisto Väisälä.
Welcome to spend an inspiring day immersed in the world of science and astronomy.
