Observatory tour
Science Centre Space Park Väisälä, Kaarina
- 13.11.2025–
Discover Finland's largest telescope, modern astronomy, the history of astronomy and much more!

On the observatory tour you can explore the rich history of the Tuorla Observatory and at the same time learn a great deal about modern astronomy. The tour includes a visit to Finland’s largest telescope, the rock tunnel that runs through Tuorla’s Laukkavuori — which served as Yrjö Väisälä’s optical laboratory and where some of the world’s most precise mirrors and lenses are still ground — and, when possible, the radio telescope and Opteon Ltd’s optics workshop.
Tours are always tailored to the visitors, so by the end the secrets of the universe will feel a little more familiar both to preschool children and, for example, conference guests. Welcome to learn more about our vast universe and to hear how Finnish astronomy and engineering have played a part in unlocking the mysteries of the cosmos.
