A Celebration for Everyone: Independence Day at Leikki – the Museum of Play

Celebrate Finland's Independence Day at Leikki – the Museum of Play with a multicultural programme for the whole family! The programme includes a lively musical theatre performance by Mimi and Kuku, a festive handshake with the museum's teddy bear mascot, activities inspired by celebration traditions from different cultures and fun creative workshops. Everyone is welcome to celebrate the Finland we all share!
The programme is included in museum admission, except for the Wheel of Fortune and Crown Workshop.

A Celebration for Everyone – Independence Day Programme

10:30–10:45 am, 11:30–11:45 am and 1:30–1:45 pm Lohtu Bear's Festive Handshakes
Lohtu Bear, the museum's cuddly mascot, welcomes visitors to the Independence Day celebrations with a festive handshake.

11 am–3 pm Cotton Candy Stall by the Friends of Museum Leikki
Treat yourself to something sweet! Celebrate Independence Day with delicious, melt-in-your-mouth light blue cotton candy, available to purchase at the stall run by the Friends of Museum Leikki.

11 am–1 pm Flag Garland Workshop
Celebrate Independence Day by creating a beautiful festive decoration to take home! Make a flag garland featuring flags from different countries.

11 am International Children's Choir Performance
The international children's choir from The International School of Music Finland will perform at Museum Leikki's Independence Day celebration.

12 noon and 2 pm Mimi and Kuku
Mimi and Kuku's joyful, energetic musical theatre performance encourages children's confidence, independence, emotional skills and friendship skills through play. Suitable for all ages, the show features original songs with easy dance moves, concentration games, puppetry, soap bubbles and magic. Every child is welcome to join in and shine just as they are!

12 noon–2 pm Henna Tattoo Station
Decorate yourself with beautiful patterns! Complete your festive look with a lovely small tattoo made with natural henna.

12:30–1 pm and 3:30–4 pm Wheel of Fortune
Spin the wheel and win a little surprise! Participation costs €2.

1 pm and 3 pm West African Dance Adventure
Feel the energy of dance and discover the exciting Simb lion tradition with Senegalese dance instructor Mbacke Niang! This lively performance invites children to enjoy the joy of dance and music and try some easy steps of traditional Senegalese Sabar dance together.

2–4 pm Crown Workshop
Crown your day of celebrations! Create your own festive crown at the museum's workshop, perfect for Independence Day celebrations and imaginative play. Material fee €2.
